Ceramill Map600 Scanner

Ceramill Map600 Scanner

  • Scans with blue-light technology and an industrial 3D sensor.
  • High accuracy.
  • Fast scanning time.
  • Can build a virtual occlusion model thanks to the Artex CR device.

What a desktop model scanner does in the lab workflow

Not every clinic has an intraoral scanner. When a dentist sends a silicone impression or a stone model, the lab has to turn that case into 3D data before it can be designed and produced by CAD/CAM like a digital case. The Ceramill Map600 is a desktop scanner from Amann Girrbach (Austria) built for exactly this step: we pour a model from the impression, place it in the scanner and get a 3D file for the design software. From that point a conventional impression and an intraoral scan follow the same workflow.

What it scans, according to Amann Girrbach

  • Models and dies: the manufacturer lists cases from single crowns and bridges to full dentures, with scan modes including Intelligent Multi Die, All-in scan and texture and colour scan.
  • Impressions: a dedicated impression scan mode.
  • Articulated models: an articulator scan mode with an integrated universal carrier plate that takes all common articulator types without changing plates. This is what allows the virtual occlusion model with the Artex CR articulator mentioned above.
  • Sensor: an industrial 3D sensor with Blue Light technology and automatic scan height control that moves the object into the optimal scan area.

From scan file to design

After scanning, an impression case is handled like a digital one: the technician designs it in exocad, checks margins, contacts and occlusion, then sends it to milling or pressing. If you only need the design file, see our dental CAD design service.

What this means if you send physical impressions

  • Ship the silicone impression or model with the prescription (restoration type, material, shade, due date) by DHL Express. We pour, scan and continue digitally; the steps are in our ordering process.
  • Include the opposing arch and a bite registration. Without the antagonist the lab can only guess the contacts.
  • Make sure margins are readable. If an impression or model is incomplete (missing bite, unclear margin), the technician flags it before production starts.
  • The main cost is transit time: physical work adds 2–4 days before the lab clock starts. Details in turnaround time and shipping.
  • If you use or plan to buy an intraoral scanner, which intraoral scanners work with our lab explains how to export STL, PLY and DCM files.
