6 Common Oral Health Problems

More than 90% of people in Vietnam experience oral health problems, but most are complacent and self-treat in their own way, which only makes the problems worse.

Tooth decay

This is the most common dental condition, driven by changes in lifestyle, daily habits, diet and higher average life expectancy. If not treated in time, decay leads to pulpitis and complications such as periapical inflammation, tooth loss, osteitis and lymphadenitis.

Periodontitis

In addition to destroying the tissues that support the teeth — causing alveolar bone loss, tooth drift and tooth loss — periodontitis also causes bad breath. It can lead to complications such as pain in the temporal region, difficulty eating and a tendency toward stomach pain.

Gingivitis

Gingivitis is caused by bacteria in dental plaque or tartar that remain in the mouth for a long time. The longer plaque bacteria persist, the more serious the harm they can cause. When the gums appear red and swollen, you are also at risk of dangerous diseases, particularly cardiovascular disease.

Sensitive teeth

People with sensitive teeth feel an uncomfortable twinge when eating hot, cold, sweet or acidic foods. Because it poses no immediate danger, most people simply endure and ignore the sensitivity — which sets the stage for other dental problems.

In addition, when teeth are sensitive, brushing becomes uncomfortable. Many people even skip or only lightly brush the affected area. Over time, this increases the risk of decay, plaque and gingivitis.

A bright, attractive smile

Most people silently endure tooth pain, leading to more serious oral diseases. To care for sensitive teeth, choose a suitable toothbrush and toothpaste, brush correctly, limit sweets and sour foods, rinse with a fluoride-rich solution and have regular dental check-ups.

Gum inflammation

When the gums are inflamed, patients often avoid the pain and do not clean their teeth thoroughly, creating conditions for periodontal disease to develop. Dentists note that oral hygiene is the fundamental step that determines success in preventing gum inflammation.

Bleeding gums

Bleeding gums can arise from anemia or plaque; a deficiency of vitamin K or C; or hormonal changes. Repeated bleeding is a warning sign that needs to be checked. Dentists will order tests to rule out causes related to leukemia, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and more.

Own a Radiant Smile with Porcelain Veneers

A beautiful smile with white, healthy teeth is always a powerful “weapon” to win people over and to feel more confident when communicating. However, not everyone is born with it. Daily habits can be hard on tooth enamel — through poor oral care or restrictive diets — and many people end up with problems such as discolored teeth, fluorosis, or teeth broken in accidents.

Porcelain veneers are considered an ideal solution to all of these problems. A veneer is a thin layer of pure porcelain, designed to the size and shape of each individual tooth, 0.2–0.6 mm thick, that enhances the esthetics of the teeth with the following advantages:

Effectively corrects dental flaws such as dark, yellow-stained, chipped or misaligned teeth.

Delivers complete esthetics with even, bright, translucent, glossy teeth and a natural surface texture — for results that look more vivid and natural than the original teeth.

Easy, durable chewing, with a lifespan of 10–15 years or longer when the patient maintains good oral hygiene.

Minimizes intrusion into the natural tooth: bonding a veneer only requires grinding part of the front enamel — a very small amount, about one-third compared with conventional crowns — so the tooth is well protected. The pulp is preserved wherever possible, avoiding sensitivity and discomfort.
