About the programme

We announced this workshop on our Facebook page on 21 November 2024, with free registration and limited places. It was built around two threads: how the clinic and the laboratory work together when restorations are planned and designed from digital records (face scan, cone-beam CT, intraoral scanning), and how to indicate monolithic zirconia for esthetic restorations.

The scheduled date, 28 November 2024, has passed; this page keeps the programme on record and gathers the lab’s technical articles on those same two subjects.

Indicating zirconia: no longer one material

“Zirconia” now covers a family of blanks with different strength and translucency. As our article 3Y-TZP vs 5Y-PSZ zirconia explains, 3Y-TZP is stronger but more opaque and suits long-span bridges, posterior units and implant restorations; 5Y-PSZ is clearly more translucent but markedly weaker, and suits monolithic anterior crowns; multilayer blanks combine the two from cervical to incisal.

The direct clinical consequence is preparation depth: a crown cannot be prepared as thin as traditional zirconia and still be expected to look like glass-ceramic. To indicate zirconia well, the blank has to be chosen before the preparation, not after it.

Where monolithic zirconia is not esthetic enough for incisors, the lab can cut back and layer the facial surface, as described in full-cutback on Multi Zirconia. Our dental ceramic materials comparison sets zirconia alongside e.max and feldspathic porcelain so the choice can be made case by case.

The digital records a lab needs for personalised design

Designing to the face and the treatment plan only works when the files that reach the lab are complete. These articles answer the questions we are asked most often:

Zirconia at Khai Nguyen

We work with several zirconia lines, including IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime, 3M Lava, Cercon and DDBIO. Zirconia crowns and bridges take 2 to 4 working days to produce depending on the number of units, plus DHL Express transit of typically 2–4 days for international cases. If you are unsure which blank suits a case, send photos and scan files first and we will discuss it on WhatsApp at +84 902 945 585, or see the ordering process.

Written for dentists and technicians. Khai Nguyen Dental Lab manufactures to clinical prescription only and does not sell directly to patients.
